I just created an account. What happens next?
Verify your email address. Verifying your email helps us ensure we have the correct email address for you. We also unlock features and visibility gradually as you do things like complete your account signup (enter an email, password, and username and verify your email address), follow other blogs, like posts, and customize your blog’s appearance—basically, the more you use Tumblr, the more of Tumblr there is to use. And verifying your email is a great way to get started. If you haven’t received an email from us to verify, click the green banner at the top of your dashboard to send it again.
If you’re having trouble verifying, please check out our Help Center article on email troubleshooting.
If you’re still having trouble verifying your email address, please contact us and we’ll gladly assist you.
How can I get my content to appear in search?
If you’re new to Tumblr, you may be wondering why you aren’t appearing in search results or tag pages. Tumblr gradually adds visibility to your blog as you use it. The more blogs you follow, the more posts you like and the more creating/reblogging of great content, the more visible you are.
If you’ve been on Tumblr for ages and are still concerned about your visibility, keep in mind that with millions of users publishing content on Tumblr every day, we can’t guarantee that every post will appear in a given search. And that’s ok! Because our search is algorithmic, it offers an incredible variety of content via tags and phrases - your content included. Even if you don’t see your post in search right now, that doesn’t mean that other users won’t.
As an aside, there are a variety of factors that may impact your content’s searchability. You can read more about that in our Help Center.
Engaging with the community, gaining followers, and finding blogs to follow.
Gaining followers is all about visibility and content.
The best way to gain followers is to participate in the Tumblr community as much as possible; follow a lot of blogs, reblog and like their posts and publish great content yourself. Also don't forget to tag your posts with keywords so that other users will see them when they search Tumblr.
You can discover communities, items of interest, and blogs to follow using our search feature. On the web, click the compass icon in the top right corner of your dashboard. Using our Android or iOS mobile apps, tap the search icon. You’ll find a variety of recommended topics and blogs based on your interests.
I’m concerned about security on Tumblr. What security features do you have to protect my account?
Tumblr has your back when it comes to security. Tumblr is a safe way to browse, find content and interact with other users.
However, we also rely on you to take proper security precautions for your account information.
We recommend that you regularly change the passwords that you use for both your Tumblr and email accounts. You can change your password at any time on your settings page. Remember to use unique passwords for every website you log in to.
Here are some more tips to get you started with maximizing your account security:
- Turn on two-factor authentication in your account settings, which will require both your password and a code from your phone when logging in. Don’t forget to grab your recovery backup codes when setting it up!
- Turn on the "Email me about account activity" option (also in your account settings). This will allow you to receive an email every time someone logs into your account, your password is changed, or a new app is authorized.
- Make sure your computer is physically and digitally secure.
- Scan for malware or spyware.
- Always log out by clicking on the account menu and selecting "Log out" at the very top of the menu, especially on public computers.
- Never enter your Tumblr credentials on any site other than tumblr.com, and always look for the lock icon in your browser's address bar indicating a secure connection (e.g., https://www.tumblr.com).
- Never install any software on your computer from a source you don’t know and trust.
If you have any questions about better security practices or have trouble setting up any of the above, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
How often should I change my password?
We strongly recommend changing your password often. We also recommend using a password manager to keep track of all of your passwords. Remember to use unique passwords for every website you log in to and don't re-use previous passwords.
To reset your password when you’re not logged in to your account, just head over to our password reset page and request a new one. It may take up to 10 minutes to receive an email from us. If you try a few times and still aren't receiving anything, have a look at our article addressing email troubleshooting for tips on how to fix the problem.
If you’d like to change your password for security purposes but you’re already logged in:
Click "Settings" under the account menu at the top of the dashboard (looks like a little human). Update your password in the Password section and click "Save.”
Or, using our mobile apps, tap the account icon (the person silhouette), and then the gear icon. From there, tap “General settings,” and then tap “Password.” Follow the prompts to update your password.
While you’re here, take a quick look at our security tips for your account.
As always, if you’re having trouble with any of this please don’t hesitate to contact us.
